Can I set the default CUPS printing options for print 1-sided on the printers from the terminal window?

This hint points to an alternative method using open source software, namely the CUPS system (included with Mac OS X) and the Avahi Bonjour services discovery software. This document outlines how to configure CUPS and Avahi to allow printers to show up on IOS devices and allow printing to them. As a proof of concept cups-pdf was used to create. The latest version of Mac OSX (10.10 - otherwise known as ‘Yosemite’) now includes CUPS version 2.0. The implementation includes tighter restrictions around access to the printing subsystem - also known as Sandboxing. In this method, the Mac OS X Yosemite will be installed on the existing startup drive. After you create the bootable installer on your USB drive you can plug in it to the Mac PC or laptop and go through the steps to install the Yosemite installer file. Sudo launchctl start org.cups.cupsd That should resolve the issue; it did for me when I tried it. crarko adds: I did the steps, and it appears to do what it says.

Yes, but I do NOT have any detailed instructions for you. The CUPS configuration files are kept in

/etc/cups

I think the one you want is

/etc/cups/printers.conf

NOTE: I made a trivial change to my CUPS printer just using my admin account when prompted for authentication.

I enabled the CUPS web interface from my admin account by just entering

cupsctl WebInterface=yes

from a terminal session (I DID NOT use sudo; just entered the command as my normal admin self)

Then using Safari, I accessed http://localhost:631

and used the Administration tab to modify my printer information (in my case it was just the printer description). It prompted me for the admin name and password, which I gave and it did the change.
